FleetingMatters is a creation of artist/illustrator/educator John Danehy for political photo-illustration. I welcome comments and criticism, postings and links. I hope the blog can become a forum for discussions about the genre, as well as topics of the day. Please post your comments, and me to your blogroll.

  1. Hi John, your site looks pretty good although you’ve decided to throw your hat into the ring a little late vis a vis the 2008 election 🙂

I like your images! As far as suggestions go– because visual elements are a heavy emphasis of your blog, I would try to go with a theme that includes more color and allows you to utilize a custom image header. I use the Freshy theme, although I think I’m starting to outgrow it. It took me a lot of trial and error before I found a theme and developed a custom image header I felt comfortable with.

Last thing– I don’t know if you’re into Digg.com at all but I go there religiously. You might enjoy their “2008 U.S. Elections – Images” feed: http://digg.com/images/2008_us_elections

Good luck on the blog! I’ll link back to you!

  2. Mike,
Thanks for the feedback, and for the mention on your blog.

I hadn’t necessarily planned on getting into the ring. This political imagery is more of a response to current events utilizing a format that has long interested me, rather than planning something out well in advance. But I may just stick around.

I’ve started trying out some different themes and using a customized header, which is easy enough to do after you’ve done it once. I’m still trying to figure out how to customize with widgets, the text widget, etc.

Your observations are much appreciated. Stay in touch!

  3. John,

This is really funny. I will share it with friends. Great ideas!

  4. Maura,
Thanks. Great to hear from you. Email me, I’d like to know what you are up to.
